Home & Office Decor / Especially for the Office
- Asian Harvest
- by Michele Reese
This magnificent quilt, interpreted from the Harvest Song pattern designed by master quilter and teacher Jackie Robinson, is a stunning example of the perfect wall hanging or bed cover. Combining 26 different, richly textured fabrics depicting Asian themes, this 80″ × 112″ quilt has been hand crafted and pieced together using a variety of techniques. This includes a three dimensional piecing where the pieces stand free from the background fabrics. Bamboo themes are used, and reused, around the piece to echo the glory and beauty of Asia.
The colors are a rich blend of traditional and unexpected shades of red, purple, green and cream – many of which are highlighted by golden threads and images that give a sparkle and glow. In addition to the depth created by the three dimensional technique previously mentioned, the placement of dark and light fabrics creates movement in the piece. The quilter has used gold metallic thread tto place golden KOI around the center blocks, and has used verigated cream threads for trapunto-style detailing, all to highlight the three dimensional piecing. Although portions of this design employ heritage patterns, such as log cabin and pin wheel blocks, the overall design is a true original.
The binding is done in bamboo-themed shades of green and gold to compliment the reverse side of the quilt, which is done in lovely shades of light green and lavender. Once you inspect the detail photos, you’ll definitely want to find a special place in your home for it to rest. For the office, it would become a noteworthy addition to the decor – careful, though, you’ll need a large viewing area.
