All colors found in nature-especially the lovely muted green tones— lie in the window panes on this hand-made quilt contain single images of the different leaves. Can you identify each leaf and the plant is belongs to? The silhouette image surrounding each leaf in this quilt design also compliments the dimension supplied with each window payne.

With the green tones, naturals and beiges are laid as one part of the quilt-top background. It is coupled with jewel-toned purple tones that accompany the rest of the colors in this quilt to become the window paynes that surround each leaf.

Why purple in the windows? It may be a personal preference of the quilt maker, but here in the northwest, where the quilt was made, those purple tones are always reminders of the huckleberries that are in such demand every summer. These little berries seem to do their best to hide from the human species but are devoured by the bears who romp the forests and mountainsides in the Rockies!

The dark blue-gray border highlights the colors in this quilt. And the sky-blue leaf applique in the corners of the quilt give the entire quilt that extra special touch it needs to finish it off!

The quilt stitches on this quilt are magnificent! Echoing the leaf patterns in the quilt top, delicate machine-quilt stitching copies the shape of many different leaves. The traditional “leaf” quilt stitching adds texture to the window panes of this beautiful quilt.

The artist, Sharon Betts, has already attached the “sleeve” to the back of the quilt so it is completely ready to add to any wall in the home or office.
